Khulna gang leader 'Shooter Arman' arrested in Faridpur, guns recovered: RAB

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) yesterday (6 September) arrested Md Arman Hossain Dip, also known as "Shooter Arman", the alleged leader of the notorious "Arman Bahini" gang, over accusations of terrorism, extortion and establishing dominance in Khulna's Daulatpur, Khalishpur, Arongghata, Dighalia and surrounding areas.

Based on information provided by Arman, an imported pistol, two shotguns and 12 rounds of shotgun ammunition were also recovered, said RAB-6 Company Commander Major Md Nazmul at a press briefing at the agency's headquarters in Khulna today (7 September).

According to RAB-6, Arman was arrested in Boalmari upazila of Faridpur. He is a resident of Khulna's Daulatpur area.  

RAB said Arman had long been associated with a criminal group active in Daulatpur and Arongghata. He later formed his own gang with eight to 10 members.

According to RAB, the gang allegedly sought to establish control in the area through extortion, intimidation and displays of firearms, creating fear among local residents.

Businesspeople were allegedly contacted via WhatsApp from various foreign numbers and asked to pay extortion money. 

Those who refused were threatened with having their businesses shut down, intimidation and even being shot dead, RAB said.

The elite police unit also said Arman has admitted to being directly involved in an incident on 17 June in which two people were shot and wounded in an attempted killing inside a mosque in Daulatpur.  

RAB said CCTV footage of the incident is also available.

According to RAB, Arman is named in several cases filed at different police stations in the Khulna metropolitan area, including cases involving murder and attempted murder.

Major Nazmul said RAB is hopeful of bringing the other alleged gang members under the law soon.

He said RAB-6 will continue its operations as part of a coordinated effort by law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order and ensure public safety.
