Former president Abdul Hamid has been sued, along with former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 122 others, for his alleged involvement in an attack on the Anti-discrimination Student Movement protesters during the 2024 July uprising in Kishoreganj.

Tohmul Islam Mazharul, 27, filed the case yesterday at the Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station, Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Al Mamun told the media.

The accused also include Hasina's sister Sheikh Rehana, her children Sajeeb Wazed Joy and Saima Wazed Putul, and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, among others.

This is the first case naming Abdul Hamid, listed as the third accused after Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana.

The case statement alleges that the defendants orchestrated a planned massacre by supplying weapons and funds to suppress the protests.

The incident reportedly took place on 4 August last year at noon when the plaintiff and several others joined the protests.

Tohmul, who claims BNP affiliation, said he delayed filing the case due to medical treatment for injuries sustained during the event.

Since the government's fall on 5 August last year, around 50 politically linked cases have been filed in the district, involving over 4,000 named and 10,000 unnamed individuals.
