A Jahangirnagar University teacher has died of cardiac arrest while carrying out her duty as a polling officer in the JU Central Student Union (Jucsu) election.
Jannatul Ferdous, assistant professor in the Department of Fine Arts, passed away on the way to the hospital after falling ill during vote counting activities.
Associate Professor Shamim Reza, the head of the Fine Arts department, stated, "I was serving as the returning officer at Pritilata Hall, and she was on duty as a polling officer. In the morning, during the vote counting, she suddenly collapsed at the entrance of the hall. She was immediately taken to Enam Medical College."
Professor AKM Rashidul Alam, the university proctor and member secretary of the election commission, said, "Due to fatigue and the absence of polling agents, the counting for all hall union elections could not be completed last night. The counting for Pritilata Hall was scheduled for the morning. She arrived at the counting center along with her colleagues and collapsed in front of the Senate Hall entrance. An ambulance was immediately arranged to take her to the hospital. Sadly, we later learned that she had already passed away."
The incident has plunged the university community into mourning. University authorities have extended their deepest condolences to her bereaved family.
The namaz-e-janaza (funeral prayer) for Jannatul will be held after Jumma prayers in front of the JU Central Mosque, Associate Professor Shamim Reza confirmed it, reports UNB.
