JU buildings suffer cracks after powerful earthquake; no casualties reported

An earthquake this morning (21 November) caused structural cracks in multiple buildings at Jahangirnagar University, including the newly constructed Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Hall.

Students residing on campus said that the floor on the ninth level of the newly built Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Hall developed visible cracks following the tremors.
Cracks were also found in the washroom of Block B on the sixth floor and on the seventh floor of the Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall.
Additionally, the newly constructed Faaliztunneasa Hall also showed signs of damage.
Rashidul said the university's engineering office has been asked to conduct inspections of all residential halls and take necessary measures to assess and address the structural issues.
Authorities are currently evaluating the extent of the damage to ensure the safety of students and staff.
