Jatri Kalyan Samity demands withdrawal of increased fare
According to the statement, none of the conditions under which the fare was increased is being complied with these days
Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity has demanded the withdrawal of the 60 percent increase in bus fares as most public transports in the country are not following the hygiene rules amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
The organisation's Secretary-General Md Mozammel Haque Chowdhury made the demand in a statement sent to the media on Tuesday.
According to the statement, none of the conditions under which the fare was increased is being complied with these days. The buses are taking extra passengers as before.

Most of the transports are also collecting extra fares along with the 60 percent increase that has been approved by the government on the pretext of compensating the loss of public transport owners amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the statement reads.
As a result, the common people of the country who have become miserable due to unemployment and declining income are having a hard time travelling.
The Jatri Kalyan Samity statement termed the extra fare as a trap of the transport owners.
It said the fare of all types of vehicles including leguna, human haulier, tempo, auto-rickshaw, paddle-rickshaw has almost doubled. The interests of the passengers have utterly been neglected.
The statement claimed at that time, the Jatri Kalyan Samity strongly opposed the fare hike, but it was not taken into account.
