Japan will help the government to supply cent percent pure drinking water to the city dwellers and build townships like Singapore and Hong Kong.

Japan to help Bangladesh in township building, pure water supply: LGRD Minister

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister (LGRD) Minister Tazul Islam on Sunday said Japan will help Bangladesh in building township and providing cent percent pure water to Dhaka dwellers.

"Japan will help the government to supply cent percent pure drinking water to the city dwellers and build townships like Singapore and Hong Kong," he said.

The Minister said this after a courtesy meeting with Japanese Ambassador Naoki ITO at the Secretariat.

The government has taken 'Clean village, Clean city' project and the Prime Minister will inaugurate it in January, the Minister said adding that when Japanese assistance was sought in implementing the project they assured us to provide assistance.

The government is prioritising waste management, said Tazul Islam adding that Japan has invited Bangladesh to see their technology in this regard.

The government is prioritising waste management as was garbage is increasing with the increased in per capita income, he said  adding, "The drainage system should be developed in Dhaka and we will work together with Japan in this regard,"

While asked about the dead canals in the capital, Tajul said it the responsibility of City Corporation.

Japan invested in Matarbari, Moheshkhali projects as well as they have investments in sewerage, city governance and water management sectors.
