Jamaat ameer holds talks on religious harmony with Christian community delegation

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman today (14 January) met a high-level delegation from the Christian community and discussed issues relating to religious harmony, minority rights and peaceful coexistence in the country.
The meeting was held at Jamaat's central office in Moghbazar, where a 10-member Christian community delegation led by American academic Dr Gordon Klingenschmitt paid a courtesy call on the Jamaat chief.
During the meeting, Shafiqur Rahman described Bangladesh as a multi-religious and multicultural country and said ensuring the religious freedom and security of all citizens is the responsibility of the state.
He said his party has consistently advocated for human rights, dignity and justice for people of all faiths.
Following the meeting, Jamaat Assistant Secretary General and head of its central publicity and media department Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair briefed journalists, saying the discussions were held in a positive and cordial atmosphere.
Members of the delegation shared views on various social and religious issues concerning the Christian community and expressed hope for enhancing mutual understanding and cooperation.
Dr Gordon Klingenschmitt praised the existing interfaith harmony in Bangladesh and stressed the importance of continued dialogue among religious communities.
The delegation included Martha Dash, general secretary of the National Christian Fellowship of Bangladesh, Reverend Bony Baroi, chairman of the Bangladesh Evangelical Revival Church, and other community leaders.
