Jail terms, fines for aedes larvae detection: Ctg mayor
The mayor also announced that the city corporation-run hospitals are now offering free antigen tests for dengue detection

Strict legal action will be taken against anyone found with Aedes mosquito breeding grounds or larvae on their premises, Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain said today (29 June).
"This won't just result in a monetary fine — jail time may also be imposed, if necessary," he said during a press briefing following a preparatory meeting on dengue and chikungunya prevention, held at the CCC's temporary headquarters in Tigerpass.
"Dengue outbreaks spike during the monsoon season, as aedes mosquitoes breed in stagnant clear water," said Mayor Shahadat.
"This includes water collected in flower pots, drums, rooftops, or any place where water is left to accumulate."
He further said that alongside raising public awareness, the CCC has launched a three-month-long special "crash programme" to combat the spread of dengue.
"Under this initiative, mobile courts will regularly inspect homes and establishments. If Aedes larvae are found, immediate legal action will be taken—fines as well as jail sentences will be enforced if necessary," he added.
The mayor also announced that CCC-run hospitals are now offering free antigen tests for dengue detection, and have prepared 10 hospital beds specifically for dengue patients.
"We are fully prepared to deal with dengue. However, this battle is not the city corporation's alone — everyone must keep their homes and surroundings clean," he said
