Islamic Foundation holds imam conference in Narsingdi
An imam conference was held in Narsingdi with the participation of around 700 imams to promote the upcoming referendum and encourage voter participation.
The conference was organised by the Islamic Foundation, Narsingdi district, at the Narsingdi Sadar Upazila Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre auditorium on Monday morning.
The programme was presided over by Md Nazmul Hasan, deputy director, Islamic Foundation, Narsingdi. Abu Taher Md Shamsuzzaman, additional district commissioner (general), representing the Narsingdi district commissioner, attended the event as chief guest.
Special guests included Md Abdullah Al Faruk, superintendent of police; Dr Syed Amirul Haque Shamim, civil surgeon; Makhon Das, president, Narsingdi Press Club; Md Obaidul Kabir Molla, district information officer; Md Saiful Islam Limon, senior librarian, District Public Library; Mufti Atiqullah, khatib, Narsingdi Upazila Mosque; and Maulana Oliullah, imam, Brahmandi Baitul Aman Mosque, among others.
Speakers at the conference said the role of imams would be significant in the 12 February referendum and the 13th national parliamentary election, particularly in promoting civic awareness and participation. They called on religious leaders to play a constructive role in encouraging voters to take part in the referendum, emphasising inclusive participation as a means of building a harmonious society and state.
