India recalls Ziaur Rahman's 1971 declaration on death anniversary
The Indian mission said the people of Bangladesh were gathering in memory of "one of their nation's bravest sons."
The High Commission of India in Dhaka has paid tribute in a Facebook post today (30 May) to President Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam, recalling his historic radio address in March 1971 that inspired Bangladeshis to resist oppression and fight for independence.
Recalling Ziaur Rahman's role during the Liberation War, his famous radio address in March 1971 "electrified the masses, inspired them on a path of resistance against oppression, and led to national liberation."
The Indian mission said the people of Bangladesh were gathering in memory of "one of their nation's bravest sons."
The High Commission also highlighted the shared history between Bangladesh and India during the Liberation War.
"Today, as then, India stands shoulder to shoulder with the people of Bangladesh in a saga of shared sacrifices and a common journey towards the progress and prosperity of both our peoples," the post read.
