Impartial, efficient judiciary needed in Bangladesh: EU

The European Union (EU) has emphasised a strong, impartial, and efficient judiciary in Bangladesh is needed to safeguard fundamental rights and promote transparency.
"It is essential for protecting fundamental rights, ensuring accountability, promoting transparency, and building public trust," said a Facebook post by the European Union in Bangladesh on Monday (3 February).
The EU is Bangladesh's long standing partner and is supporting judicial reforms such as those put forward by the Supreme Court, said the post.
An image of the meeting held between Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and EU Ambassador Michael Miller on 30 January was shared in the post.
The EU thanked the chief justice for having discussions with the EU Ambassador regarding judicial independence, capacity building for judges and lawyers, access to justice and the digitalisation of the justice system.
