HC summons Narayanganj DC, two others for failure in evicting illegal brick kilns
The High Court on Wednesday summoned Narayanganj's deputy commissioner and two other officials as they have failed to evict illegal brick kilns following the court order.
They have been asked to appear in person on 31 May to explain the reasons behind their failure to implement the previous court order that provided two weeks for the evacuation aiming at curbing air pollution.
The other officials are the director (enforcement) of the Department of Environment and its officer responsible for Narayanganj.

The High Court bench of Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Mohammad Showkat Ali Chowdhury passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the Bangladesh Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.
The High Court earlier ordered the evacuation of illegal brick kilns in five districts – Dhaka, Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Manikganj and Gazipur. None of the illegal brick kilns in Narayanganj has been evicted since the order, as mentioned by the human rights campaigner.
Earlier in 2020, the High Court gave a nine-point directive to prevent air pollution. Follow-up applications for the implementation of that judgement have been filed at various times.
On Wednesday, Lawyer Amatul Karim represented the Department of Environment in court, while Senior Advocate Manzil Morshed stood in favour of the petition. Assistant Attorney General Salim Azad appeared for the state.
