Iftekhar Alam elected BMBA president, Sumit Podder secretary general

The Bangladesh Merchant Bankers Association (BMBA) has elected Iftekhar Alam as its president and Sumit Podder as secretary general for the 2026-2027 term.
Iftekhar Alam is the chief executive officer (CEO) of LankaBangla Investments Ltd, while Sumit Podder serves as the CEO of MTB Capital Limited.
Chief Election Commissioner Mohammad A Hafiz announced the names of the newly elected Executive Committee members following the election, according to a press release issued by the BMBA today (4 January).
Under the new committee, Monirul Haque, CEO of Rupali Investment Limited, has been elected as vice president, and Syed Rashed Hussain, CEO of BRAC EPL Investments Limited, will serve as treasurer.
The newly elected executive members of the committee include Gazi Mohammed Tareq, managing director of MIDAS Investment Ltd; Suman Kumar Kundu, MD and CEO of BD Finance Capital Holdings Ltd; and Sohel Haque, MD and CEO of City Bank Capital Resources Limited.
The immediate past president of the association, Mazeda Khatun, officially handed over the charge to the newly elected president, Iftekhar Alam, during a ceremony following the announcement.
The BMBA is the apex body of merchant banks in the country, playing a key role in the development of the capital market and representing the interests of issue managers and underwriters.
