Identifying root causes of road crashes can help prevent accidents: CMP chief
The workshop was organised on 17 and 18 August as part of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety. Police officers were trained in two batches.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasan Md Showkat Ali said identifying the root causes of road crashes can help prevent similar accidents in the future.
He made the remarks at a two-day workshop on 'Road Crash Investigation' organised by the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) in Chattogram yesterday (18 August), where 74 police officers received training.
He said every road crash may have one or more causes, and identifying those causes is essential to preventing future crashes. He stressed the need for proper investigation of every crash.

In his opening remarks, the CMP commissioner stressed the importance of thorough and evidence-based investigations to identify the underlying causes of crashes.
A session on road crash trends in Bangladesh was conducted by CMP Deputy Commissioner (Traffic South) Mohammad Liakat Ali Khan.
GRSP Asia-Pacific Senior Road Policing Advisor Peter Jones conducted the training sessions. Participants received hands-on training in collecting evidence from crash sites, preparing site sketches, preserving evidence and taking photographs to support investigations.
Traffic sergeants, sub-inspectors, police inspectors and assistant police commissioners from CMP, along with two Chattogram City Corporation engineers, four BRTA vehicle inspectors and two Fire Service and Civil Defence officials, attended the workshop.
CMP Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Hossain Mohammad Kabir Bhuiyan was the special guest.
At the end of the workshop, he handed certificates to the participants. In his closing remarks, he urged them to use the knowledge gained from the training to properly identify the causes of road crashes.
Among others, BIGRS Chattogram Initiative Coordinator Labib Tazone Utshab, Enforcement Coordinator Quazi Helal Uddin, Transport Coordinator Sutapa Tasnim and Communication Officer Mahmudul Hasan were also present.
