'My goal is to represent July at the highest level': Snigdho explains reason behind joining BNP
“I had the opportunity to represent July through non-political platforms in various ways. Now it is time to represent July politically,” he wrote
Two days after joining BNP, Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho, the twin brother of July martyr Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho, said that it is now time to "represent July politically and at the highest level".
Snigdho, who has been active in various social initiatives since last year's July uprising, made the remarks today (6 November), explaining the reason behind stepping into the political arena and actively joining BNP on 4 November.
In a Facebook post, Snigdho said, "Since July, a wave of rebuilding a new Bangladesh has emerged, especially among the youth. As one of those young representatives, I have been socially involved in different activities. Now, I wish to contribute to the political change that young people are striving for."
He emphasised that neither he nor his brothers had been politically affiliated before, adding, "Mugdho gave his life for the country as an ordinary citizen. I believe that Mugdho and all martyrs belong to the people, not to any political party; they are the assets of this nation."
"I had the opportunity to represent July through non-political platforms in various ways. Now it is time to represent July politically," he wrote.
Explaining his political aspirations, Snigdho said, "My goal is to represent July at the highest level, to become the voice of the July martyrs, wounded fighters, and their families, and to represent the youth in politics. I also aim to build unity among all pro-Bangladesh and pro-July groups."
On his decision to join the BNP, he said, "The BNP has a long history of political struggle, and many aspects of its 31-point reform outline align with my vision for rebuilding the state. I believe July must be represented at every level, and joining the BNP will strengthen and prolong the unity born from July."
He also mentioned that the acting BNP chairman, Tarique Rahman, encouraged him to represent the youth on behalf of the party.
"Through this, I believe I can help build a bridge between the youth and the nationalist movement," added Snigdho, who resigned from his post as the chief executive officer of the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation back in May.
"Above all, I wish to work with all political parties and with everyone who supports Bangladesh and the spirit of July. Building a better Bangladesh through political unity is one of my main objectives," he said.
Concluding his statement, Snigdho noted, "So far, I have performed all my duties with sincerity and honesty. If there are any allegations, please present them with proof and constructive criticism. In this new Bangladesh, we can at least hope for that much reform."
"May the Liberation War, the July mass uprising, and all people's struggles remain forever immortal," he concluded.
