Hilsa exports to India hit 63 tonnes in 2 days through Benapole ahead of Durga Puja
Each hilsa weighs between 1.2 kilogram and 1.5 kilogram on average, and each kilogram has been priced at $12.5, equivalent to roughly Tk1,500.

A second consignment of 26.35 tonnes of hilsa was exported to India through Benapole Land Port in Jashore last night (18 September), bringing the total to 63 tonnes exported in the last two days.
Shamim Hossain, director of the land port, told The Business Standard, "Through Benapole, a total of 37.46 tonnes of hilsa were exported on Tuesday and 26.36 tonnes on Thursday night. Altogether, 63.82 tonnes of hilsa have been exported to India in two days."
He added that the government has approved 37 exporters to ship a total of 1,200 tonnes of hilsa through different ports across the country.
"However, exporters must complete shipments to India by 5 October, as per the directive of the commerce ministry," he said.
Under the directive, one company was given permission to export 50 tonnes, 25 companies were permitted to export 30 tonnes each, nine companies to 40 tonnes each, and two companies up to 20 tonnes each.
Sajib Saha, fisheries quarantine officer at the Fish Inspection and Quality Control Centre in Benapole, said each hilsa weighs between 1.2 kilogram and 1.5 kilogram on average, and each kilogram has been priced at $12.5, equivalent to roughly Tk1,500.
According to port officials, five Kolkata-based companies — National Trading, FNS Fish, Joy Shantosi, Ma International, and RJ International — imported the fish.
The exporters from Bangladesh include Satota Fish, Swarnali Enterprise, Tanisha Enterprise, Biswas Enterprise, and Lucky Trading.
