High-level committee with 3 advisers formed to probe Abdul Hamid’s departure

A high-level committee has been formed to investigate the departure of former president Md Abdul Hamid from the country.
The members of the committee are Education Adviser Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar (chairman), Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan (member) and Shipping and Textiles and Jute Adviser Brigadier General (Retired) M Sakhawat Hossain.
The committee has been asked to submit a report within next 15 days, said a press release issued by the Chief Adviser's Press Wing.
The committee has been tasked with investigating the circumstances of former president Abdul Hamid's international travel through Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on 7 May, determining whether there was any negligence or deviation of duty by the relevant authorities, identifying specific lapses, and recommending appropriate action.

To carry out this review, the committee can request necessary documents, equipment, evidence, and meetings with concerned individuals, and all organisations must comply with their instructions and provide necessary assistance.
The committee can also co-opt members as needed, and the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs will provide secretarial support.
Earlier on 8 May, a three-member inquiry committee, led by the additional inspector general (administration) of police, was formed to investigate the departure of Md Abdul Hamid.
The superintendent of police (SP) of Kishoreganj has been withdrawn, and an additional deputy commissioner of the Immigration Police has also been removed from duty for failing to perform their responsibilities properly in connection with the incident.
