State minister orders swift completion of 40 ICU beds at Mohakhali TB Hospital
The state minister also provided necessary directives to improve the overall environment and healthcare services at the hospital
State Minister for Health MA Muhit has directed authorities to quickly complete and make operational 40 ICU beds at the National Institute of Disease of the Chest & Hospital in the capital's Mohakhali.
The ICU services will be provided free of cost for poor patients, aiming to ensure affordable and advanced treatment for the general public.
The state minister gave the directive after visiting the hospital today (29 March), where he inspected preparations of the newly built ICU unit at the specialised asthma centre following a discussion marking World Tuberculosis Day.

During the visit, he also inspected several floors that had remained abandoned for years. These spaces have been renovated to establish a modern ICU facility equipped with advanced medical equipment.
"The unit must be made operational as soon as possible so that people can access ICU services at low cost. Our goal is to build a healthy Bangladesh and ensure advanced healthcare for every citizen, especially the poor," Muhit said.
According to hospital sources, the ICU block has been developed by renovating long-abandoned spaces. Once operational, it is expected to reduce dependence on private hospitals for the treatment of chest diseases and respiratory complications.
