Skill development training on normal delivery crucial to limit C-Section practices: Experts

To check the surge in unnecessary Caesarean section – commonly known as C-section – public health experts focused on skill development for gynaecologists, midwives, and nurses.
A common perception exists that surgeons often prefer to go for the unnecessary C-Section, they said. Counselling and essential training will convince gynaecologists about the good sides of normal delivery, they maintained.

Every year 10 lakh C-Section deliveries are performed in Bangladesh, mostly in private clinics, said Mosairul Islam, an official of the Directorate General of Health Services.
Participants of this training-of-trainers programme on facilitation of normal delivery should help spread the know-hows among other maternal health service providers, said Professor Rawsan Ara, another former president of the OGSB.
To reduce the practice of C-Section and maternal mortality, UNFPA representative Sathia Dorasami put emphasis on evidence-based care.
Service providers from Dhaka Medical College and Mymensingh Medical College were among the participants of the programme.
