Minister Iqbal Hassan hospitalised with fever, breathing difficulty; doctors say condition now stable
The minister needs to remain in the hospital for a few more days for comprehensive treatment and close monitoring, doctors say.
Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood has been admitted to Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital and Research Institute in Dhaka with fever, breathing difficulties and cough-related complications.
According to a press release issued by the hospital today (2 September), the 76-year-old minister was taken to the hospital's emergency department at around 9:40pm yesterday (1 September).
Following initial examinations, doctors found that he was experiencing breathing difficulties and had low oxygen levels in his blood. After receiving necessary treatment in the emergency department, he was admitted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) for further evaluation.

Doctors said his condition is currently stable.
A three-member medical board was formed immediately to oversee his treatment. After reviewing various blood test reports and a chest X-ray, doctors considered pneumonia and started treatment accordingly.
A new medical board comprising specialists from different fields was formed around 9am today. His treatment is continuing based on the board's recommendations, while necessary tests are also being conducted.
Mahmood has a history of diabetes and high blood pressure. He also recently underwent a heart procedure in Bangkok, where a stent was placed in one of his coronary blood vessels.
Doctors also informed that the minister needs to remain in the hospital for a few more days for comprehensive treatment and close monitoring.
Meanwhile, President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir visited Iqbal at Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital around 9:30am today.
The president spent some time at the minister's bedside, said the president's Assistant Private Secretary Mohammad Yunus Ali.
"The doctors briefed the president on the minister's physical condition. He [the president] also spoke to Iqbal's son, Abed Hasan Mahmud," Yunus added.
