Measles outbreak: Death toll rises to 585 with two more deaths in 24 hrs
Among the newly reported cases, 53 were confirmed as measles through laboratory testing
Two children died from a measles-like syndrome in the 24 hours between 8am yesterday (30 May) and 8am today (31 May), raising the nationwide death toll to 585, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
During the same period, 1,324 patients exhibiting measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals across the country.
Among the newly reported cases, 53 were confirmed as measles through laboratory testing.
According to DGHS data, at least 90 children have died from confirmed measles so far this year. In addition, 495 children have died after developing symptoms consistent with the disease, bringing the total number of measles-related deaths to 585.
The latest health bulletin shows that 9,049 measles cases were laboratory-confirmed between 15 March and 31 May.
Nationwide, a total of 70,936 suspected measles cases have been identified during the outbreak. Of them, 52,841 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals after receiving treatment.
