Measles outbreak: 5 more children die, death toll rises to 610

Five children died from measles and measles-like syndrome in the 24 hours between 8am yesterday and 8am today (5 June), according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), taking the total death toll this year to 610.

Of the newly reported cases, 243 were confirmed as measles through laboratory testing.

According to DGHS data, at least 91 children have died from laboratory-confirmed measles infections so far this year. In addition, 519 children have died after exhibiting symptoms consistent with measles.
The latest health bulletin shows that 9,500 measles cases have been confirmed through laboratory testing between 15 March and 5 June.
Nationwide, a total of 76,876 suspected measles cases have been identified during the period. Of them, 58,154 patients have recovered and been discharged after receiving treatment.
Health authorities continue to monitor the outbreak as hospitals across the country report a steady influx of patients with measles-related symptoms.
