Let not social media confuse you about coronavirus treatment: IEDCR

The disease control authority has advised people not to get confused by the coronavirus related information spread through the social media. 

"The symptoms of coronavirus are similar to the symptoms of common flu or cold and fever. So there is no treatment other than treating patients based on their symptoms. But the social media are spreading misleading information about its treatment method, to which people should not pay any heed," said Prof Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora, director of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).

She said this during a press briefing on coronavirus situation in the country on Wednesday.

Dr Meerjady said three people are in quarantine in Kurmitola General Hospital and 11 more in Combined Military Hospital.

She also said the Chinese citizen are our guests so the IEDCR is looking after the matter that they are face no problem here.

The IEDCR director said 298 Bangladeshis who came back from China are quarantined in the Ashkona Hajj Camp and the government is providing them with a balanced diet four times a day. 

So far no coronavirus patient has been found in Bangladesh. But precautionary measures, like washing hands frequently, covering mouth while coughing, not spitting indiscriminately and maintaining overall hygiene are necessary to halt the spread the virus, said Dr Meerjady at the press briefing. 

The IEDCR has scheduled a programme at 3pm today to answer questions from the guardians of the Bangladeshi passengers returning from China, said a press release from the IEDCR yesterday.
