Have urged Centre for repair of damaged India-Bangladesh fencing in Tripura: CM Manik Saha

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha yesterday (10 June) said he has urged the Centre to repair the damaged barbed wire fencing along the State's International Border with Bangladesh.
The northeastern State shares 856 km of boundary with the neighbouring country and nearly 80% of the border has already been fenced, while fencing on the remaining stretch has been halted due to various issues. Barbed wire fencing in multiple sections has been damaged by factors like landslides, rainfall, other natural causes, or due to vandalism by miscreants.
"During the NEC plenary session in Agartala [December 2024], I raised the issue of repairing the barbed wire fencing and putting up new fencing in unfenced areas for urgent action. Several portions have suffered damage for different reasons. Apart from the NEC session, I have also brought this matter to the attention of Central leaders on several occasions. The Centre is currently considering it. I will once again raise the issue in Delhi," the Chief Minister told PTI.
On the matter of infiltration, Saha said he had discussed the concern with the Border Security Forces (BSF) and other security agencies to step up surveillance along the border to prevent infiltration attempts from across the border. He stated that infiltration has not increased at the rate initially feared in the northeastern State, and that the agencies are undertaking necessary measures for the deportation of illegal immigrants.
Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated the 'Seva, Sushan, Garib Kalyan of 11 Saal' event of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the party's State headquarters in Agartala. It showcases the achievements of Modi's 11 years as Prime Minister, from serving the underprivileged to strengthening national security and advancing economic growth. BJP State president Rajib Bhattacharjee and BJP general secretary Bipin Debbarma were present at the function.
