Govt working to establish a hassle-free VAT system: CA
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) is observing the VAT Day today and the VAT Week from 10-15 December.
Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus today (10 December) called for building a transparent and technology-driven revenue system to enable countrymen's trust that their hard-earned money is properly being used for welfare and development purposes.
"The interim government is committed to building a well-structured, just, and public trust-based state financial framework. To achieve this goal, the government is working to establish a technology-driven, hassle-free VAT system," he said in a message on the occasion of the Value Added Tax (VAT) Day and VAT Week 2025.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) is observing the VAT Day today and the VAT Week from 10-15 December, highlighting the importance of timely registration under this year's theme, "Register on Time, Pay VAT Accurately."
"We want to build a future where economic transactions will be transparent, the business environment will be business-friendly and state services will be quality-driven and universal," Prof Yunus said.
He expressed hope that, upholding the spirit of the July mass uprising, a transparent and simplified revenue system will emerge, which will enable the citizens to visibly trust that their hard-earned money is genuinely being used for welfare and development purposes.
"Establishing the principle that people's money is used for people's welfare is at the heart of our collective efforts," the Chief Adviser added.
"On the occasion of National VAT Day, I urge everyone to actively participate in this national effort to build a just revenue system," he said.
On the occasion, Muhammad Yunus extended his sincere greetings and congratulations to businessmen, consumers, revenue officials at all levels, and all those involved in VAT collection.
He said VAT is one of the main sources of domestic revenue collection, adding, the importance of a transparent, effective and accountable VAT system is immense to ensure a stable and sustainable economic advancement of the country.
The core inspiration of the July movement was to establish dignity of the people and accountability in state governance, CA Yunus said, adding, the VAT Day further makes that value clearer.
"I wish 'VAT Day and VAT Week-2025' to be beautiful and successful," the chief adviser concluded.
