Govt withdraws BPM, PPM awards of ex-IGPs Mamun, Benazir, 101 others

The government has withdrawn the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM), and President Police Medal (PPM) conferred on 103 police officials, including former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, Benazir Ahmed, for the undue role they played in the 2018 national election.
The police officials, including former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, have been ordered to refund all the money they received against the medals.
The order was issued through a notification signed by Touhid Ahmed, senior assistant secretary of the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, under the directive of the President.
"The Bangladesh Police Medal [BPM]/Bangladesh Police Medal-Service [BPM-Service]/President's Police Medal [PPM]/President's Police Medal-Service [PPM-Service] awarded to the following 103 [one hundred three] officers, who were directly involved in the controversial 10th National Parliamentary Election held on December 30, 2018, are hereby revoked as per the order," read the notification.
