Govt lauds police's swift action, urges public to help identify those involved in vandalism, looting during pro-Gaza protests
At least 49 so far arrested and police are continuing raids and video analysis to track down others responsible; two cases filed

The interim government has called on citizens to support law enforcement agencies in identifying those involved in yesterday's (7 April) violence and vandalism during pro-Gaza protests across the country.
An official statement, posted on the verified Facebook page of Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus this morning (8 April), said law enforcement agencies took swift action against what it called "violent and unlawful events" that unfolded during pro-Gaza demonstrations across several districts.
It said at least 49 people have so far been arrested, with police continuing raids and video analysis to track down others responsible for the attacks that occurred during the protests, which the government described as "an affront to public safety and the rule of law."
"Two cases have been formally filed, and further investigations are underway," the statement said. "Additional cases are in the process of being filed against those responsible for these reprehensible acts."
In a bid to bring the perpetrators to justice, police conducted raids last night (7 April) targeting individuals allegedly involved in the violence. Authorities are also reviewing video footage from the protests to identify more suspects, the statement said, adding that these operations will continue until all those responsible are apprehended.
Urging the public to assist law enforcement by providing any information that may support the investigation, the statement read, "Together, we can ensure that those who seek to undermine the peace and stability of our society are held accountable."
Shops and business establishments in several districts were vandalised during yesterday's pro-Palestine demonstrations, including in Dhaka, Chattogram, Cumilla, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Barishal, Khulna, and Mymensingh.
Protesters attacked the showrooms of several major brands, accusing them of supporting Israel amid its ongoing military strikes in Gaza.
