Govt to review firearm licences issued during AL tenure: Home minister
The minister said that after the review, licences granted lawfully and to individuals who meet the eligibility criteria will remain valid.
Home Affairs Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said the government will review firearm licences issued during the Awami League government to determine whether they were granted in accordance with due legal process and to eligible individuals.
After the review, licences granted lawfully and to individuals who meet the eligibility criteria will remain valid, he told reporters after a meeting with heads of departments and agencies under the Ministry of Home Affairs at the ministry's conference room today (23 February).
"However, licences issued to those who were not eligible or not granted in accordance with the law – that is, licences given with political motives or considerations, or to facilitate any criminal activity – will be cancelled," he said.

He added that any firearms held under such cancelled licences, along with ammunition, will be confiscated.
A circular will be issued today instructing authorities at the district level to supervise the review process, he said.
