Govt reconstitutes National Coordination Committee on Security and Social Stability
The prime minister is the chairman of the committee, while the home minister is its vice-chairman and the prime minister’s defence adviser will serve as its chief coordinator.
The government has reconstituted the National Coordination Committee on Security and Social Stability, with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman as its chief, according to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division yesterday (17 May).
The prime minister is the chairman of the committee, while the home minister is its vice-chairman and the prime minister's defence adviser will serve as its chief coordinator.
The other members of the committee are the cabinet secretary, principal secretary to the prime minister, principal staff officer of the Armed Forces Division, inspector general of police, director general of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), director general of National Security Intelligence (NSI), director general of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), director general of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC), director general of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and additional inspector general of police of the Special Branch (SB).
The officers who will assist the committee are the additional inspector general of police of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), additional inspector general of police of the Special Security Unit (SSU), and the chief officer of Bangladesh Bank's Financial Intelligence Unit.
Another supporting member is the chief executive officer of the National Security Cell under the Cabinet Division.
The notification said the committee will determine important issues, areas and scopes related to security and social stability.
To ensure security and social stability, it will formulate a comprehensive action plan on the relevant issues identified by the committee.
The committee will also assess the country's security and social stability situation, determine priorities on various important related issues, and supervise inter-agency implementation.
To ensure security and social stability, it will determine the scope of work of law enforcement agencies and organisations on various issues identified by the committee.
The committee will review existing laws and regulations, make recommendations for amendments and reforms, formulate new rules and regulations, and take measures to regularly supervise all relevant sectors, organisations and online platforms identified by the committee to ensure security and social stability. It will also establish necessary coordination and provide instructions among intelligence and law enforcement agencies accordingly.
The notification said the committee meetings will be held as needed.
The committee may co-opt the heads of the armed forces and other law enforcement agencies or organisations, or any other officer, as members or supporting officers for a specific period, depending on necessity and scope.
The NSI will provide the necessary manpower and infrastructure support for the committee's secretariat.
