Govt to provide Tk2 cr financial assistance to family of Osman Hadi
Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed disclosed the decision
The government has decided to provide a total of Tk2 crore in financial assistance to the family of Inqilab Mancha Convener Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi, including Tk1 crore for purchasing a flat in Dhaka and another Tk1 crore for livelihood support.
Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed disclosed the decision while speaking to journalists today (21 January) after chairing a meeting on the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase held at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at Bangladesh Secretariat.
Responding to a question, the Finance Adviser said two separate allocations had been made for Hadi's family.
"Tk1 crore will be given from the Ministry of Finance for purchasing a flat or house. The entire amount may not be required. Another Taka one crore is being provided separately from the Chief Adviser's fund for the livelihood of Hadi's," he said.
Dr Salehuddin confirmed that the Ministry of Finance had already approved the allocation of Tk1 crore for housing purposes.
Sharif Osman Bin Hadi had earlier announced his intention to contest the 13th National Parliamentary Election as an independent candidate from the Dhaka-8 constituency.
On 12 December, a day after the election and referendum schedules were announced, Hadi was shot in the Box Culvert Road area under Paltan Model Police Station in Dhaka.
He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where he underwent surgery, before being shifted to Evercare Hospital for advanced treatment.
On 15 December, Hadi was flown to Singapore by air ambulance and admitted to Singapore General Hospital. He died there on 18 December at around 9:30pm while undergoing treatment.
