Govt prohibits light displays on 25 March, country to observe 1-minute blackout
A symbolic blackout will take place across the country from 10:30pm to 10:31pm on 25 March

The interim government has prohibited light displays in buildings and structures across the country on 25 March, the Genocide Day.
However, like the previous years, a one-minute symbolic blackout will be observed across the country on 25 March night to mark the Genocide Day.
The decisions were made at an inter-ministerial meeting in Dhaka today (26 February) on the national programme for observing Genocide Day on 25 March and Independence and National Day on 26 March, according to the meeting minutes.
Liberation War Affairs Adviser Farooq-e-Azam chaired the meeting.
The blackout will take place across the country from 10:30pm to 10:31pm on 25 March. However, key performance indicators (KPIs) and emergency facilities will be exempted from the blackout.
It was also noted that the blackout will not apply to foreign missions in Bangladesh.
Although an arms exhibition was held from 23 to 31 March in previous years, the meeting minutes state that this exhibition will not be held this year.
On the night of 25 March 1971, the Pakistani military carried out a brutal "Operation Searchlight" in Dhaka.
The Pakistani occupation forces carried out mass killings in the darkness of the night, particularly targeting the students, teachers, and staff at Jagannath Hall of Dhaka University.
