The government today approved separate proposals for procuring some one lakh metric tonnes (MTs) of fertiliser and 10,000 MTs of lentils to meet the growing demand of the country.

The approval came from this year's 6th meeting of Advisers' Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) held at the Cabinet Division conference room at the Bangladesh Secretariat with Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.

Following a proposal from the Ministry of Commerce, the state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) would procure 10,000 MTs of lentils locally by Open Tender Method (OTM) from Nabil Naba Foods Limited with around Tk97.92 crore with price of per kg lentils at Tk97.22.

Following a proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) would procure some 40,000 MTs of DAP fertiliser under the second lot from MA'ADEN, Saudi Arabia under state-level agreement with around Tk298.16 crore with per tonne fertiliser for $611.

In response to a proposal from the Ministry of Industries, Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) would procure 30,000 MTs of bulk granular urea fertiliser from SABIC Agri-nutrients Company, Saudi Arabia, under the 16th lot with around Tk144.62 crore with per tonne fertiliser for $395.16.

The BCIC will purchase 30,000 MTs of bagged granular urea fertiliser from KAFCO, Bangladesh with around Tk142.64 crore for the current fiscal year (FY25) with per tonne fertiliser for $389.75.

The day's meeting approved another proposal from the Ministry of Industries under which two buffer godowns would be constructed in two districts - Magura (15,000 MTs) and Chandpur (10,000 MTs) of the country.

The two buffer godowns will be constructed under the first revised project for construction of some 34 buffer godowns in different parts of the country for preservation of fertiliser and its distribution.
