Govt must take full responsibility for mob violence after Hadi’s death: Fakhrul
“I strongly protest this terrorism. The government must take full responsibility for these incidents,” Fakhrul wrote in his official Facebook account this morning (19 December)
Bangladesh is an independent and sovereign country, and the government bears full responsibility for ensuring the safety of life and property of every citizen, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said.
Amid nationwide mourning over the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, he said that while the nation was praying for the salvation of Hadi's soul, a series of "despicable attacks" were carried out on media houses and individuals, including The Daily Star, Prothom Alo, and veteran journalist Nurul Kabir.
"I strongly protest this terrorism. The government must take full responsibility for these incidents," Fakhrul wrote in his official Facebook account this morning (19 December).
He demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible for Hadi's killing as well as for all acts of mob violence, saying such incidents have continued for more than a year and have deeply divided the nation.
He further said that following the fall of what he described as the authoritarian Awami League government, the first and foremost duty of the current administration is to unite the nation and build a democratic, stable, and inclusive society.
Calling for restraint and responsibility from all sides, Fakhrul urged immediate government action to stop mob violence and ensure justice.
