“We have already appointed nearly 1,000 students part-time as traffic police assistants since 5 August [of last year], following practices seen in several developed countries,” says the LGRD adviser.

Following the recent recruitment of students as part-time assistants to traffic police, the government is now considering expanding similar opportunities to various public offices.

Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, disclosed the plan while speaking at an event held at the Dhaka North City Corporation headquarters today (28 June).

"We have already appointed nearly 1,000 students part-time as traffic police assistants since 5 August [of last year], following practices seen in several developed countries," he said.

"Similarly, we want to recruit students in part-time roles across different government offices. Many positions in public departments do not require full-time, permanent staff. By hiring students part-time, we can reduce government expenses while also helping students achieve some financial stability," Asif added.

He further noted that discussions are underway to determine how best to implement this plan and formalise student recruitment in various departments.
