Govt looking to replace DCs within six months of appointment, 25 called for interview

The interim government is looking to replace the deputy commissioners appointed in various districts following the fall of the Awami League-led government in early August.
The public administration ministry has called 25 candidates from the 25th BCS batch for interview on 11 January to create a "fit list" in this regard, according to a recent ministry directive seen by The Business Standard.
The candidates have been asked to appear at the conference room of the Cabinet Division at 10:00am on the fixed date.

The ministry has published a list of the candidates on its website today (6 January).
The ministry, in its directive, stated that the interview is not mandatory if any candidates do not want to be interviewed for the fit list.
At present BCS 24th, 25th and 27th batch administration cadre officers are working as DCs.
A public administration ministry official, on condition of anonymity, said, "The fit list will be prepared for recruitment to the post of DCs from the new 25th and 27th batch. In the administration cadre, there are 195 officers from the BCS 25th batch and 277 from the BCS 27th batch."
Following the ouster of Sheikh Hasina, the interim government speedily appointed DCs to districts. However, many of the new DCs are facing allegations of irregularities and controversies.
Noting the rise in allegations, on 24 November 2024, Senior Public Administration Secretary Mokhlesur Rahman at a press briefing said, "Many controversies have arisen over the DC appointments. We will start working on preparing a fit list for new DCs. We will appoint new DCs as per the government's decision."
