Govt forms 14-member panel to review BSc, diploma engineers’ demands
BSc engineering graduates and students are currently protesting with three-point demands, while diploma engineers are demonstrating with seven-point demands.

To review the demands of BSc degree-holding and diploma-holding engineers and students, a 14-member working group has been formed, headed by Housing and Public Works Secretary Nazrul Islam.
The decision came today (28 August), after a meeting of the eight-member committee – formed earlier at the Secretariat under the leadership of Power Adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan – held at the public administration ministry. Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan briefed reporters following the meeting.
Rizwana Hasan said the heads of government agencies that hire engineers have been included in the working group. "The issue of BSc graduates and diploma engineers is not new; it has existed for a long time. To resolve it, all parties must be consulted. That is why a 14-member working group has been formed. This group will hear from the stakeholders, look into any legal aspects, and then the advisory committee will deliver its final report," she said.
Fouzul Kabir Khan said his committee will meet with the protesters and guardians, as well as the government agencies that recruit engineers – particularly the Public Works Department, the Local Government Engineering Department, and the Power Development Board. He said BSc and diploma engineers will also be able to hold discussions with the working group.
"The task of this committee and the working group is to bring both sides together with neutrality," he explained.
He further informed that the working group has already started its work today, with its first meeting scheduled for next Sunday.
