Govt extends Consensus Commission's tenure again

The interim government has extended the tenure of the National Consensus Commission for the third time.
The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification in this regard today (16 October), extending the commission's term until 31 October.
The seven-member commission, led by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, was formed on 12 February. Initially, the commission was given six months to submit its report, meaning its tenure was set to expire on 15 August.
However, as the commission was unable to complete its work on time, the government extended its tenure twice before — each time by one month. Now, the government has extended it for a third time, adding another 15 days.
The Consensus Commission was tasked with reviewing and adopting recommendations from six reform commissions formed by the interim government, following the ouster of the Awami League government from power through the mass uprising in July-August of last year.
As part of that mandate, it held dialogues with political parties to reach a political consensus on reforms. Political parties are scheduled to sign the July National Charter tomorrow (17 October).
