Govt responds to Mahfuj's remark: Advisory Council to continue regular functions beyond November
The government said in a statement that reports suggesting its reform and policy formulation work must be completed by November are incorrect.
The interim government today (27 October) issued a statement after recent media reports regarding Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mahfuj Alam's comments on the activities of the Advisory Council created some confusion.
The advisory council meetings will end in November, said Adviser Mahfuj during a "Meet the Reporters" programme at Dhaka Reporters Unity yesterday (26 October).
The government said in the statement that reports suggesting its reform and policy formulation work must be completed by November are incorrect.
The statement said the reform activities will continue with full momentum beyond that period.
It also said the advisory council will continue performing its regular duties and hold meetings until responsibilities are handed over to an elected government.
Yesterday, Mahfuj said the timeframe for implementing reforms is now very short, Prothom Alo reported.
"Our original deadline was three months. Now, perhaps only a month remains. These measures need cabinet approval or must be enacted through policies or ordinances. After November, this will no longer be possible," he said.
He added that the cabinet's final meeting will be in November, after which the Election Commission will take over. "Once the Election Commission assumes responsibility, it is unlikely that any further cabinet meetings will be held," he added.
