Govt appoints Saleh Shibly as PM's press secretary, Ruman as deputy
Meanwhile, in separate notifications, the government also appointed Md Mehedul Islam as personal secretary-2 and Abdur Rahman Sani as assistant private secretary-2 to the prime minister, also on contractual terms.
The government has appointed Abu Abdullah M Saleh, widely known as Saleh Shibly, as press secretary and Atikur Rahman Ruman as deputy press secretary to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on a contractual basis.
The appointments were announced through separate notifications issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Wednesday (18 February).
According to the circulars, both officials have been appointed on condition that they sever ties with any other profession, business or employment in government, semi-government or private institutions. Their contracts will be effective from the date of joining and will remain valid for the tenure of the prime minister or until further notice at his discretion.
Shibly was the general secretary of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU). He has been a close aide to Tarique during his time in London, managing press-related responsibilities for several years.
He returned to Bangladesh on 25 December along with Tarique on the same flight from London.
