Govt to establish independent investigation service for police
The council also directed the formation of a separate commission to examine internal complaints within the police service

The Advisory Council, in a meeting today (11 August), decided to establish an independent investigation service for the Bangladesh Police.
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus chaired the meeting, held at his office in the Tejgaon area, according to Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, who briefed reporters at the Foreign Service Academy in the city today afternoon.
"The Advisory Council has decided to create an independent investigation service for the police so inquiries can be conducted free from political or other external influences," he said.
The council also directed the formation of a separate commission to examine internal complaints within the police service. "The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs will implement these decisions as soon as possible," Shafiqul Alam added.
Advisers Asif Nazrul and Adilur Rahman Khan, along with the Chief Adviser's Special Assistant on Home Affairs Khoda Box Chowdhury, will be involved in this process, he said.
Noting the emphasis on strengthening local government institutions, the press secretary said, "The Chief Adviser instructed measures to enable Union Parishads, Upazila Parishads, Zila Parishads, municipalities, and city corporations to raise and manage their own funds transparently."
On challenges in the health sector, Shafiqul Alam noted, "Some medical colleges face shortages of qualified teachers. Initiatives will be taken to engage retired teachers as consultants or in other roles to improve education quality."
The meeting also discussed the situation of Bangladeshis in Nepal. "Bangladeshis there are safe, and the Bangladesh Embassy is taking care of them. Arrangements have been made to bring the national football team home on a special Bangladesh Air Force flight," he said.
Summing up the overall outcome, Shafiqul Alam said, "Every decision taken at the meeting will further strengthen Bangladesh's economy, governance, and our position in the international arena."
Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder was present at the briefing.
