Leaders of the rebel faction of the Gonoforum Party threatened to take 'organizational measures' against the party's current president, Kamal Hossain, if he continues his 'anti-constitutional activities'.

The rebel faction of the Gonoforum issued the threat at a press conference titled 'Pledge to Protect the Gonoforum in Emerging Situation' at the National Press Club's Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall.

Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, former executive president of Gonoforum and leader of the rebel faction said, "All of Gonoforum's anti-constitutional activities have been carried out with Kamal Hossain's help."

"We want to make it clear that we will be forced to take constitutional measures against Kamal Hossain if he continues his attempts to tarnish the image of our national leaders through lies, fabrications, imaginary interviews and deliberate statements, if he persists in patronizing unseemly individuals and perpetuates political and anti-constitutional activities," he added.

He said, "We had said that a decision on Kamal Hossain will be taken during the party council on December 26. But it may happen earlier than that as he is still colluding with Reza Kibria on anti-constitutional activities."

A special council of Gonoforum was held at the Mahanagar Natyamancha in Gulistan on April 26 last year. Kamal Hossain was elected President of that council, while Reza Kibria was elected General Secretary.

On September 26 this year, following an extended meeting with a group of leaders and activists at the National Press Club, former General Secretary, Mostafa Mohsin Montu, announced that the council would convene on December 26.

A 210-member conference preparation committee was also formed at the meeting under his leadership.

The meeting also approved the expulsion of Reza Kibria, convening committee members Mohsin Rashid, AOM Shafiq Ullah and Mushtaq Ahmed on charges of breach of party discipline.

In response, on October 17, during a meeting of the Central Committee of the People's Forum at the National Press Club, Kamal Hossain, who led the session, announced the expulsion from the party of Mostafa Mohsin Montu, Abu Sayeed, Subrata Chowdhury and Jaglul Haider Afrik.

This faction of the party announced that the national council would be held on 12 December.

Mostafa Mohsin Montu said, "Reza Kibria has no connection with the people of our country. Mukabbir Khan lives abroad. They are both involved in foreign politics"

Professor Abu Sayeed, former executive president of Gonoforum said, "Dr Kamal Hossain has been led astray. He is a respected person. We want to see him as the conscience and guardian of the nation during this crisis."

Jaglul Haider Afrik, Khan Siddiqur Rahman, Ayub Khan Faruk, Ataur Rahman, Hasib Chowdhury, Helal Uddin, Latiful Bari Hamin, Nasir Hossain, Raushan Yazdani, Tajul Islam, Habibur Rahman Bulu, Maulana Nazim Uddin Azhari and many others were present at the press conference.
