Gazipur police chief Nazmul suspended amid row over road closure for his movement
The move followed Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury’s statement that a show-cause notice would be issued to the GMP chief for allegedly causing public suffering by blocking roads for his daily commute between Dhaka and Gazipur.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Commissioner Nazmul Karim Khan — withdrawn two months ago for blocking public roads during his personal commute — has now been suspended from government service.
The home ministry's Police-1 division issued the suspension order today (10 November).
According to the order, "It has become necessary and appropriate, in the public interest, to keep Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner [currently withdrawn to Police Headquarters] Md Nazmul Karim Khan away from government duties. Therefore, he is suspended from government service under the relevant provisions of the Government Service Act."
The circular adds that during the suspension period, Nazmul Karim Khan will remain attached to the home ministry and will receive subsistence allowance as per government rules.

The move followed Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury's statement that a show-cause notice would be issued to the GMP chief for allegedly causing public suffering by blocking roads for his daily commute between Dhaka and Gazipur.
According to media reports, Nazmul, who lives in the capital's Gulshan, had travelled to Gazipur daily. During his commute, the flyover at Tongi's College Gate area was made one-way, blocking traffic from Gazipur to Dhaka.
A similar measure was taken on the flyover in the Bhogra area during his return trip to Dhaka, stopping vehicles heading toward Gazipur and causing significant inconvenience to commuters.
Nazmul was appointed GMP commissioner on 11 November last year. On 1 May this year, he was elected president of the Bangladesh Police Service Association.
