Gas balloon explodes at Manik Mia Avenue, 10 injured
The explosion occurred around 2:30pm

At least 10 people were injured after a gas balloon exploded during the 'July Uprising Day' celebration at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital this afternoon (5 August).
The explosion occurred around 2:30pm.
Majedur Rahman, a senior staff nurse at Dhaka Medical College who was on duty at the event, said the injured were taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS) for treatment.
Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, resident physician at the NIBPS, said 10 people with minor burn injuries were brought to the institute.
They were given primary treatment, he added.
At 2:25pm on this day last year, ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina fled to India in the face of the mass uprising. According to the organisers, balloons were released to mark the exact moment of her departure.
They said one of the gas balloons was designed in the shape of a helicopter, symbolising the manner in which Sheikh Hasina left by helicopter.
