100% textbook distribution on day one a major govt success: Adviser Bidhan
A parents’ guideline book is being prepared to improve primary education quality and will be distributed soon, he said
The government has ensured 100% distribution of textbooks to students of all government primary schools across the country on the very first day of the new academic year, Adviser to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Prof Dr Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar said today (1 January).
"The quality of the newly distributed textbooks is noticeably better than in previous years, and this is a major success of the current government," he said while inaugurating the textbook distribution programme at Abul Bashar Government Primary School in Dhaka as the chief guest.
Addressing parents at the event, the adviser said a parents' guideline book is being prepared as part of efforts to improve the quality of primary education and will be distributed soon.
"The guide will present key aspects of children's growth and practical parenting guidance in simple language and illustrations to support healthy and balanced development," he said.
Emphasising that there is no alternative to quality primary education, Prof Bidhan Ranjan said the core objective at this level is to ensure literacy so that children can read fluently and understand lessons in their mother tongue.
"If children are taught to read properly at the primary stage, they will be able to learn effectively through reading at later stages," he said, adding that collective efforts to strengthen primary education would have a positive and lasting impact on higher levels of learning.
The programme was chaired by the Directorate of Primary Education Director General Abu Nur Md Shamsuzzaman. Primary and Mass Education Secretary Abu Taher Md Masud Rana and Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor Md Abdul Latif attended as special guests.
Later in the day, the adviser joined another textbook distribution programme at Nalanda High School at the Chhayanaut Cultural Centre, where he condemned recent attacks on the media, cultural institutions, and a minority citizen, describing them as threats to democratic development, while welcoming public resistance against such acts.
