Foreign ministry dismisses fake quotes attributed to state minister as 'fabricated'
The ministry confirmed that the state minister has never made such statements and urged the public not to be misled by misinformation and rumours
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed several photo cards circulating on social media as false, saying they falsely attribute statements to State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam.
According to a statement by the ministry today (30 March), the photo cards contain completely fabricated claims presented in the name of the state minister, including remarks suggesting Bangladesh must "speak to India with its head bowed" and "beg for oil," which it described as baseless and misleading.
The ministry confirmed that the state minister has never made such statements and urged the public not to be misled by misinformation and rumours.
It further said that the state minister had, in fact, reiterated that Bangladesh's foreign policy is guided by the principle of "Bangladesh first," emphasising that the country will maintain relations with all nations while safeguarding national interests.
Shama also said Bangladesh will engage with all countries with its head held high, maintaining communication and friendship on the basis of mutual respect, according to the ministry.
