Flood in northeastern districts claims 10 lives, affects 2.38 lakh people: Ministry

At least 10 people died and 2.38 lakh people were affected as flood submerged vast areas in Sherpur, Mymensingh and Netrakona districts.

Among them, eight people died in Sherpur district and two in Mymensingh. Eight of the deceased were men and two women.

KM Ali Reza, Disaster Management and Relief Ministry additional secretary disclosed the information at the Secretariat today (9 October).

He said the flood situation in the three districts is gradually improving.

A total of 63,171 families have been marooned, Ali Reza said adding that a total of 140 cyclone centres have been opened to provide shelter to the marooned people and there are currently 1,337 people and 561 animals in the shelter centres.

A total of 20 medical teams are operational in three districts to provide treatment to the victims.

Besides, Tk72 lakh, 4,400 tonnes of rice, 7,000 packets of dry food have been distributed in the three flood-affected districts and Tk15 lakh has been allocated for baby food and Tk15 lakh for fodder.
