Fisheries and livestock ministry gets new secretary after 7 months
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a circular today (3 August) appointing SM Shakil Akhter, additional secretary of the Statistics and Informatics Division, as the new secretary of the ministry.

After a prolonged vacancy of seven months, the interim government has finally appointed secretary to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a circular today (3 August) appointing SM Shakil Akhter, additional secretary of the Statistics and Informatics Division, as the new secretary of the ministry.
Shakil Akhter was promoted to the rank of secretary before being appointed to the ministry.
On 6 November last year, the government sent Sayeed Mahmood Belal Haider, then secretary of the ministry, into forced retirement.
Subsequently, on 20 November, Senior Secretary of the Health Services Division MA Akmall Hossain Azad was transferred to the ministry as its new secretary.
However, without appointing a permanent replacement, the government transferred Akmall to the Planning Commission — a position equivalent to the rank of a secretary — on 29 December.
As a result, the post of secretary at the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock had remained vacant since 30 December last year.
Since then, Additional Secretary Md Tofazzal Hossain of the ministry's planning wing had been serving as acting secretary.
