Meghna Group factory fire, video of which has gone viral, was doused within 30 minutes
A video of the incident later spread on social media, drawing attention amid recent factory fires in Mirpur and Chattogram EPZ

A video showing a fire at Meghna Group's sugar factory on Friday night (17 October) in the Jhauchar area of Sonargaon, Narayanganj, has gone viral on social media. The blaze, which broke out around 7:30pm in a silo at the company's Fresh Sugar unit, was brought under control within half an hour.
Confirming the incident, Narayanganj Fire Service Deputy Director Osman Goni said, "The fire at Meghna Group's sugar factory was caused by an electrical short circuit."
Once the power supply was disconnected, the blaze was quickly contained, he said, adding, "We have not yet assessed the extent of damage, and an investigation is underway."
Two units of the Sonargaon Fire Service, along with Meghna Group's own firefighting team, managed to douse the flames.
No casualties or estimates of damage have been reported so far.
Sajal Sarker, an employee at Meghna Group's sugar factory, told The Business Standard, "The fire started in the seed kerosene silo. Fire service teams arrived quickly and brought it under control."
A video of the incident later spread on social media, drawing wide attention amid growing public concern over a recent spate of factory fires across the country - including the devastating blaze at a chemical warehouse in Dhaka's Mirpur earlier on 14 October that left at least 16 people dead, and another fire at the Chattogram Export Processing Zone (EPZ) on 16 October caused significant damage.
