The incident occurred in the early hours today (10 February) at Amtola Bazar in Ward No 7 of Saturia Union.
Rajapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nazrul Islam said preliminary assessments by the Fire Service and the Rural Electrification Board suggest the fire may have originated from an electrical short circuit.
He added that the cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed and that other possible factors are being examined.
However, Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Kabir Hossain has alleged that the fire may have been caused deliberately due to electoral rivalry. He called for a fair and impartial investigation into the incident.
In a social media post, NCP leader Dr Mahmudah Mitu said that the Jamaat-e-Islami office and a godown belonging to one of its supporters in Saturia Union were set on fire.
Furniture and important documents inside the office were damaged in the fire.
