Fire breaks out at multiple jhut godowns and residences in Gazipur
Six firefighting units from Gazipur rushed to the spot and are working to douse the fire

A fire broke out at several jhut (fabric scrap) godowns in the Dewliabari area of Gazipur's Konabari today (3 May).
Six firefighting units from Konabari and Sorab fire stations in Gazipur rushed to the spot and are working to control the fire.
The fire started around 11:45am at Jahangir's jhut godown in Dewliabari, said Salahuddin, officer-in-charge of Konabari Police Station under Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP).
The fire quickly spread to nearby godowns owned by Sohel and eight to ten other owners who operate cotton and jute processing facilities, as well as several residential buildings in the area.
However, Jahangir, owner of Jannatul Enterprise, said the fire originated from outside and spread to his factory.
"There's no possibility of a fire starting inside my factory. I had goods worth Tk6 crore inside. How the fire started needs to be investigated," he said.
Mohammad Mamun, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service, said the fire began at one jhut godown before spreading to other jhut godowns and residences in the surrounding area.
The cause of the fire could not be determined immediately, and there have been no reports of casualties, he added.
